2nd time getting out of the house yesterday, a local end of summer food fair was going on in the town centre, which I forgot about it, to be honest. The misses joined in for a couple of hours walk around the fair so I wasn't very focused on photography. I wanted to challenge myself so instead of a zoom I decided to take and use only a Nikon E Series 50mm f 1.8 adapted to Sony a7C. In the end I was happy I made that decision even though I was a bit frustrated not having more versatility sometimes.

It's always a challenge to shoot in very busy and crowded places, more so with vintage lenses and being stuck on manual focus duty.

It's been a while since I shot with an adapted lens, the process is still fun but maybe a tiny bit less until I get back into the "groove" of it.

While this image was an utter failure on my part, I am still getting used to the Sony Alpha system, this was the point of realization that having Focus Peaking at High value was a really really bad idea and at this point, I decided that maybe Low would be better to avoid the invasion of the yellow screen ants :p
(I do regret not retaking this image because I thought it was quite interesting and with a strong character the idea, tuna can W van with a human pop tart in it).

I do have to say that bokehlishsness of 35mm format can be quite addictive ... I may need f 16 therapy, I never experienced (first hand) anything faster than the f 1.4 on Micro Four Thirds (courtesy of a Yashica Yashidon 50mm f 1.4) adapted and f 1.7 native.

I am unsure if I am a nifty fifty type of person, as I felt more comfortable at Pany Leica 15mm f 1.7 on the side and 80mm on the Oly 12-40mm f 2.8 Pro. Also, the misses bought me my first chilly pot plant ... which I named Potty and has tiny purple chilies :)

I mostly shot at f 2, f 4, and f 5.6 but I did try this image at f 1.8 (I don't know why for this particular image) but I was surprised by the decent sharpness of what Nikon deemed "THE BUDGET" lens that did not even deserve the Nikkor branding ... I did have a bit of purple Chromatic Aberration with strong shadow and light contrast zones but easily correctable (and not Olympus type of deep purple that makes any editing software do a Scooby-Doo: RAAAAAGHHHHH?)

At f 2.8 this little pancake (if I didn't need an adapter that is) nifty fifty is very sharp and the very smooth focus ring makes it quite easy to gear focus in position.

At this point, I was getting very hungry (and by the fact that I skipped breakfast again) and those mighty sweets looked oh so delicious ... especially how they melt at f 2 and minimum focus distance of 60 cm (not great compared to most Micro Four Thirds lenses).

It was really fun to manually focus with such ease and to play with DoF so easily from f 1.8 to f 22. Actually, I have come to realize I need to re-learn Depth of Field all over again because after being a Micro Four Thirds user for over a decade exclusively what I am used to as f 2.8 or f 5.6 or f 8 is not the same anymore of 35mm FF.

I am so excited for October, my favorite month of the year, and Halloween ... and pumpkins. At this point, being out in the crowds for well over an hour, no earbuds/headphones in (with my music), started to get to me and the anxiety level was giving me chest pains, making it painful to breathe, focus my vision and think. So we head in for Weather Spoons for a brunch.

Looking out the window of our table, so many people bustling by, busy busy busy .. though I am told it's not as big and as crowded as previous years (that I have missed completely) past.

On our way back home we were on the lookout for some delicious venison meats (bye-bye Bambi) and I did snag a couple of images at the freshly baked bread stand before I added 2 stakes, 2 sets of sausages, and delicious burgers with us (paid of course :p )

If it wasn't for the fact that we've done food shopping twice just 2 days prior (and hence forgot about the fair) I would have snagged some of those delicious loaves as well, but alas ... just sitting there, pretty, for the camera.

Right before I get the stinky eye from these molded cheese ... but I defeated them because I had deodorant applied before leaving the house ... though they still remarked that my pictures stink instead :p

And that was my tiny little adventure, it felt nice to be excited to have a camera in my hand and to be happy with the results as well.
