I have an EP5 and D7000/7100. The D7000 and EP5 both run 20 mbs codecs. And both are nowhere near the 7100 even before you run it out of the HDMI. However several days ago, I installed the NikonHacker video firmware upgrade (sets the SD data rate at the old HD rate, and then gives you the choice of 36, 48, and 64 mbs data capture for HD). After using it for several days at the 36 MB rate IMHO at 24 fps it as good or even better than the 7100. Now it took them two years to get it at this level, but for all of the older Olympus cameras than the Em10 and Em1 that run at 20 mbs it would make the video worth while. Using MercalliPro on the 7000 and exporting as wmv at medium (which is between 36 and 40 mbs data rate) the video is killer.
Even if they could only get the EP5/Em5 up to say 24 mbs with a fix or hack that would be a substantial jump. With no movement the Oly video using a Boris plugin uprezed well, but almost any movement produces issues (which by the way, MacalliPro can fix some of those issues). I know Olympus is not seen as a video camera like Pany is , but with IBIS and something like a 20% better data rate for the older cameras, they would be great. But its my guess that you need a user base as large as Canon or Nikon to get a hack.
Love my EP5 just wish this one thing could be improved with buying a new camera.
