Coupled with the promised near-native speedy AF on existing 4/3 lenses (including its lineup of fast zooms, especially the 12-60mm) for the new EM model, m43 users may suddenly have lots of choices for this kind of lens.

    Exciting times!

Any guesses what focal lengths the new lens will cover?

It's got to at least cover 12-35; I've heard it will probably go longer? Or what are the chances of them releasing two lenses like Panasonic have done in order to cover a larger focal range..?

I suspect they originally went with a f2 lens because they needed to try to keep the ISO low on the 10 MP 4/3 sensor. With the 16MP sensor in the OM-D f2.8 is less of an issue (DOF aside). The good news is this may well not be a behemoth.

12-x Oly + the Panny 150 could make me happy with the current body.

I hope it is weather sealed! (and the 150 too)

I suspect a 12-60mm f2.8. I can't really see them going wider than 12 but it will most likely go farther than 35mm.

I love how he says "and it's better than the Panasonic" with no reference at all. That's just to start a fight in the comments. It worked, but still . . .

    My guess is 12-40mm.

Thats too much range for a constant f2.8. I suspect a 14-45mm f2.8 or maybe doing the 12-60mm f2.8-4 like the 4/3 version. And I highly doubt that theyll do a 12-35mm or something very similar since it seems like Olympus and Panasonic avoid overlapping premium lenses.

Agreed so perhaps they bring a 12-40. I don't think Oly will do a 14-45 because they will want it to stand out and there are already 14-45mm even though they are nowhere near the quality. I think they go with an original focal length like the 12-40, so it will be longer than the Pan but it won't interfere with the 45mm 1.8 sales.

If this lens is going to be as good in quality as the Zuiko 14-35mm/2, then that is a very nice standard to reach! Of course it is a stop slower so that makes it easier for them to achieve the same quality but if the lens is small enough (as I expect it will be due to the ideals of the format) then that will still be an engineering feat!

Hoping for a 12-50mm constant f/2.8. I was REALLY close to buying the PL12-35mm but since the Oly-version is coming, I decided to wait...

    I would be a happy camper with a 12-50 f2.8 constant aperture, but I would be even happier with a 12-60 f2.8-f4.

If it prices like the 14-35/2, I predict great wailing and gnashing of teeth here.

That's why, personally, I'd rather have a 12-40mm f2.8/4 - purely so that I might have a chance to buy one!

I agree but if they are going to do a variable aperture, I would hope it goes to 60 at the long end.

My interpretation of the rumor was that this is still pretty uncertain - am I wrong?

I really like the 12-60. If that lens were available in native m43 mount I'd buy it in a heart beat. It could probably be shrunk a little but it's a pretty substantial piece of hardware. I'm guessing something with a more restricted range on the long end. I'm one who's not been very happy with the 12-50, probably cause I was spoiled by the 12-60. I rented the Panny 12-35 for a trip last year and liked it a lot. But not as much as the 12-60. I've been holding off a purchase till I saw what Oly would release. Very interested to see this one.

The Rumor site do dribble their information - not too much at one time because they want all our hits again tomorrow!
