After all the rumours and talk it does look like it's finally coming. Just the addition of the Q menu will be enough for me - fingers crossed.

Very good of Fuji to do this considering how old (relatively speaking!) the camera is. It will come: X100 firmware 2.0 on the way

    Post v2 update

A few links on v2 feedback. If you use zone focussing you may want to check out the bug links. I can reproduce it each time. Flysurfer has reported it to the engineers in Tokyo. It's worth reading those two threads just to avoid frustrations. It can be worked around but annoying nonetheless.

A few links with further discussion on v2 feedback.

    Looking more official now.

From Steve's Digicams Fujifilm Updates X100 Firmware

    FUJIFILM LAUNCHES SIGNIFICANT FIRMWARE UPDATE
    FOR THE ORIGINAL X100

New firmware v2.0 delivers focus peaking, faster AF and improved close-up focus

Valhalla, N.Y., September 5, 2013 - FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced a new firmware v2.0 update that dramatically improves the performance of the original FUJIFILM X100, the first model in the premium X-Series line of digital cameras.

Since its release in March 2011, Fujifilm has received meaningful feedback from X100 photographers throughout the world, and the firmware upgrade reflects many of their requests. This new firmware update delivers improved autofocus and manual focus, as well as other convenient features for users who update their FUJIFILM X100.

"Photographers around the world have trusted their images to Fujifilm and the X-Series, and this new firmware update is concrete evidence that we are not only listening to our customers, but also working hard to improve our products on a continuous basis," said Manny Almeida, senior vice president and general manager, FUJIFILM North America Corporation.

Key Features of New X100 Firmware v2.0

    Improved Auto Focus

Approximately 20% faster AF speed and enhanced focus distance compared to the previous firmware version
Close-up focus distance shortened by 30% before needing to switch to macro mode
    Improved Manual Focus

New Focus Peaking function assists in manual focusing by enhancing the outline of the subject in high contrast
Improved focusing via the EVF or LCD when using wide apertures
    Improved Operability

The camera start-up time has been shortened by approximately 0.2 seconds.*1
Pressing the AF button now toggles the focus area selection screen, and the area of your choice can then be selected
The X100 firmware v2.0 update will be available on September 10.

Not yet. The latest I read is the firmware has undergone more testing. I suspect they found more bugs at the last minute. It seems like quite a substantial update. An announcement was actually made on Fuji's Middle East site and has subsequently been removed. At least that suggests that this firmware is real and we're going to see it.

Fuji's product life cycle philosophy appears to be refreshingly different to most. Most other manufacturers want you to buy their latest model in order to get the newer features. But some of these features aren't always hardware dependent and can be offered in a firmware update.

I was thinking about selling my X100, but decided to wait for this firmware update. I'm glad I did, it's really a nice improvement.

Kudos to Fuji. And meanwhile, Olympus still hasn't released anything to fix the banding issues on the P20, despite saying they would do something about it over a year ago.
