Another set from my toy collection, this time we have Big Duo, and in one photograph a cameo from Big O himself...

    Thank you!

Big O is about the closest I have to the giant robo's. I do have a 24" Mazinga from when I was a kid, he is in the slow process of being restored. :)

    Big O Himself

Well it would be completely unfair of me to have a good photograph of Big Duo, without a photograph of Big O as well

    So here he is...

The series never had a chance to pull all the plot lines together, the first season was just Batman with giant robots, the second season started to put it together, then poof, :p

I still have to say they were some damned cool looking robots

    Big O lighting setup...

    I don't mind at all.

The gels are about 8 inches square, and basically I move them around till I get the parts I want colored, leaving enough of the white softboxes open to bring in some white to the colored sections.

I'm not using strobes for this, I'm just using my strobes modeling lights, and I use full manual on the camera and lens, and use my sekonic to meter, then I bracket a bit.

One from the cutting room floor.

I thought it would be interesting to post one of the not right photographs, I find it interesting to see how a project progresses, and I hope you do to, that or I just like to see myself type

As you can see for this shot, I had the camera at a severe angle to promote keystoning, which I figured would help make the Big feel bigger , instead of the Red/Yellow of the final project, here I was using red/green, and I had to have my son hold the background at an angle. The problem with this Big is his legs have hardly any movement so I couldn't get the feet/legs at an angle that I really liked.

Finding them might be tough or expensive, these were made by Bandai and haven't been in production for years. However this is a newer set with a far more articulate big o, the Soul of Chogokin big O is around 200 dollars. And there is another company called Max Alloy that has a fully metal Big O for around 500 or so :p They also have Roger Smith, Dorothy, Big Duo and Big Fau.

All of which are outside my budget :p But I figure if I buy toys still at 40, you are never too old to have a new toy, now I just tell my wife they are "willing photography subjects" which hasn't worked yet but I still trying
