A thread for those photos of blossom we all take, but never own up to. With or without insects, people, birds or buildings, post them here. For blossom is one of the most beautiful and sometimes startling of all of nature's reaffirmations of our continued existence.

We live on a planet that rotates at 1600 km/h as it hurtles through space at 67,000 km/h. On its orbit around our sun there comes a time each year on this immense whirling voyage when a certain point is reached in the northern hemisphere, and nature reawakens, deep down at the atomic level, budding incrementally across a huge swathe of the earth's surface, plant by plant, tree by tree. The process has long fascinated me, and I think spring and regrowth is one of the most wonderful things mankind (and all of the natural world) can experience. Rejoice in it, the birds and insects certainly do!

The first blossom in our garden is always the small plum tree by the old summer kitchen. It is two weeks early this year, and the flowers are out before the leaves. Any cold and we will not be getting any plums this year! Amazingly, the first insects are out too; synchronicity has reached deep into nests and burrows, waking the early pollinators to get out in time to do their work.

(I hasten to add that I'm not all nerd. I shall be watching rugby this afternoon, probably with a beer or two, and will make lewd suggestions to the wife over supper. I just happen to love the natural world :D)

Snow today, changing to rain. Highs in the mid 30's F. I'm thinking I may need to wait a week or ten before I can post.

Is that a plum as well, Ron? Love the layer of sunlight....

Thanks. These are on an ornamental pear tree. We have a couple of those in our front yard - and they usually are the ones that signal that Spring has arrived.

Ah, we can all be patient. I'm looking forward to seeing different blossom from different parts of the world.

Thanks for that, Ron. I should have thought before asking, lol!
