In Spain typical Christmas fare includes 'Turrón' and 'Polverones'. Turron is a type of nougat made with honey or sugar, peeled and toasted almonds and egg whites. It's made almost exclusively in the Alicante area in the south. The Polveron is a type of shortbread made with flour, butter, ground almonds and cinnamon. Most people squeeze it in its wrapper before opening or it tends to disintegrate if you try to pick it up! This is one of the best known shops near me and Jose got in quite a stock for the holidays.
