Sunrise: Take two

Discussion in 'Scenic, Architecture, and Travel' started by Luckypenguin, Oct 10, 2011.

  1. A few months ago I got up early to watch the sunrise from a lookout over Brisbane, and on the weekend I went back to have another go. The season is now spring instead of winter, the temperature is warmer, and sunrise is now 5:00am instead of 6. This time around there were only a few other people there to catch the sunrise. Unfortunately their idea of watching a 5:00am sunrise involved a portable stereo and cans of Bourbon & Coke, but I digress...

It was very bright with no clouds so there was really no avoiding blowing out the sun when trying to expose for some foreground detail. The articulated GH1 screen works great here, allowing me to flip the screen out at 90 degrees and stand side-on to the sun, and all without resorting to using the viewfinder.

All shots taken with the GH1 + 14-140mm combination, processed in Color Efex and Silver Efex.

Nice work Nic! #7 and 9 are my favorites, especially 9! Great use of the DOF to give it a dreamy view.

    Cheers Nic. Nice shots.

#3 is cool and so is #6 which is my favorite shot in the series....even though it could be ominously titled "Brisbane Under Siege" !
