I got up before 3 AM this morning so I could go the Haleakala National Park on Maui to view the sunrise. It was cold and very windy. A good number of my pictures were out of focus or aslant, as I had trouble staying erect and holding the camera in the wind. (Plus, as time passed, my fingers were numb with cold.)

Other viewers were wrapped in blankets and bedspreads as they waited. (I lightened this one a bit.)

Hell, no. Drove right to the top.

It was fun, but I should have had my arctic gear with me...but I didn't think to bring that to Hawaii with me.

Seems like there were a LOT of people there given the time of day and the temperatures. Is that normal, or was this some kind of special event?

    Nice shots!

There were a lot of people. It's a fairly well known tourist attraction, but it is surprising to realize that there are that many people willing to get up at 3 AM to see the sunrise there.

It's my last day here...I'm considering driving back up for a view of the sunset.
