I am looking for an affordable monitor for photo editing. Unfortunately, $500 is about my limit on spending. Any suggestions on which models I should look at.

It's hard not to recommend Dell Ultrasharp monitors. They are very good value, IPS, and come factory colour calibrated so they are no hassle to deal with.

I have a 24" U2414 that is a few years old and has great picture quality @ 1080p.

Under $500, you can get the 27" U2715H which is 2560x1440, again factory calibrated.

I'll second the recommendation for a Dell Ultrasharp, they're a good value for the price. I've been using a Ultrasharp for a few years and it hasn't given me any issues.

I'm thinking the Dell U2515H and a X-Rite ColorMunki Smile would fit nicely in the budget.

Some of the Dells are 16:10 aspect ratio, which I strongly prefer.
I have a 24", several years old... It was $299 at the time.

I bought a refurbished 32", 4K Benq that reviewed very well and proved to be brilliant for just $650. There are smaller models that can be had for less.

Don't shy away from the refurbished Market to maximize value. I don't think I've ever purchased a brand new monitor and have never had a problem.
