An injury has prevented me from using my Pentax K-5 these last two months so I took the GX-1 with me on a recent studio shoot; working with a simple backdrop, wireless flash triggers, one or two soft boxes, and a couple of models that were a total blast to work with. Here are the results (will be added to as I finish post-editing).

For the most part, shot with the 14-42.

    Model: Alexis Scigliano

In the right hand, even the kit lens produces wonderful images.... :bravo-009:

Did you have trouble focusing and composing with only the modeling light since you were probably working around f/8?

Good shots. Nice model - great eyes, but the catch lights are distracting in that first shot IMO.

The studio had overhead lights on to keep the ambient light at a reasonable level so focusing wasn't too much of an issue; first time to attempt shots like this without a proper viewfinder and the fixed focus point to compose with (I kept moving the focus point accidentally with my palm).

Also, the momentary blanking out of the screen threw me off between shots; assume this happens with the LVF-2 as well since you are temporarily closing the shutter.

Thanks; we were intentionally playing around with the light setup and going for the pure "headshot" look a la Peter Hurley (who does the four-strip lighting setup) but I can see how it might be distracting!

I like the lighting, but i do agree the reflections in the eyes are a little odd. Great set.

Nice stuff. I'm really liking this little camera and the images it can produce, but I can't imagine using it in this setting (from a form factor point of view more than anything). Impressive.

Another set; probably should spend more time in post (Flickr seemed to have oversharpened the uploaded pics) but I've got quite a few more to get through... the theme was makeup so the MUAs had free reign on concept & design. Check out those crazy eyelashes!

All shot with the Olympus 45mm

Very nice. Having the G3 with the kit lens it's nice to know it's so capable in the right hands.

The one downside I find to my PEN cameras is the inability to use studio/strobe lighting (or even on-camera bounce flash) while using EVF. Its one of the main reasons I've been debating picking up a G3 or E-M5. How do you find this working for you with the GX-1?

Doh! Totally forgot that adding the LVF-2 will exclude being able to use the wireless trigger...! I'd definitely shoot again with the GX-1 but would have to probably change my shooting style (have to find the best focusing mode to use, for example; i was using the 23-area mode but found it would sometimes focus on the wrong spot). A vertical grip would be nice as well as my thumb sometimes would touch the screen and throw the focus point off.

All in all though, quite the capable performer!
