The Sony RX100 is considered to be the best available point'n'shoot camera, judged on the basis of its small size, fast lens, and image quality. It utilises a sensor with 15.9 mm diagonal (compare with MFT at 21.6 mm). There have been two subsequent models, adding convenience features at the cost of increasing size and (apparently) IQ issues. On Amazon UK the original model sells for £349. Ebay seller Venture Direct has new units for £300, including free tracked shipping from the UK throughout the EU. I have never dealt with them before, but took them up on this offer. I'll let you know how it goes. Here's a link to the sale.
