I'm in Southern California right now, working for the week. Was hoping to get some sunsets the first couple of nights I was here but the area was clouded over. I noticed the weather break yesterday afternoon and headed straight to Newport Beach after my day was done. Kind of a cool place to go check out if you're ever down here.

These were taken with the EM-5/Panasonic 12-35. I held a Cokin P 2 stop graduated ND over the lens for the sunset shot (forgot my holder at home). Took me a long time to make sure everything was completely clean afterwards. Be mindful if you shoot down at a beach (I was a little more confident using this weather-sealed set-up).

I welcome your comments and critique.

Nice shots! I like the runner and the sunset as well as the last shot. Did you have a tripod for the last one, or did you hand hold it somehow?

    Thank you.

That last one was around a 8 second exposure. I used a Benro mefoto tripod and a Vello Free Wave remote. The tripod is a nice one to travel with weighing around 2.5lbs. Remote works really well too and was about $30 from B&H.

    Nice stuff mate.

I like the first and last the most. With the first I would have really loved to have seen more real estate in the right of the image....just enough to capture the whole of that cool bike and some more of that nice sunlight bathing the sidewalk and walls. I like the B&W in that shot too, nice and smooth tones and not overly contrasty.

I like No 3 with its repetitive theme that provides perspective, yet underscores the hewn texture of the pillars.

Check out the docked sailboats during sunset at exclusive Balboa Island and Lookout Point, Corona Del Mar. I go the Point when I wanna clear my head as I watch the sun blanket the ocean with an orange patina.

Try Roy's Hawaiian fusion restaurant at the outskirts of Fashion Island Mall.

    the lounge room wall.

    Thanks for the input!

Looking back I thought the same thing about the bike shot. It was a nicely lit sidewalk and somehow I got there when no one was walking down it. I actually cropped it a little bit on the right side, just to take the edge of a palm which I was finding distracting. A bit wider lens like the 7-14 would have helped, but man I'm having tons of problems with that lens on this body right now. I took pictures at Crystal Cove last night and had banding galore!

Nice! Next time I'm down I will check out those spots. Thanks.

Thanks David. I might indeed get a print out of this set.

Appreciate all of your input! Thanks very much

Thanks! This one was actually taken with the PL25. I forgot my 12-35 got a little salt spray on the polarizer, so I swapped out for the PL25 since I had already checked that FOV for framing the shot. This one got featured on flickr explore!

Wow! Did you get to visit much? I wouldn't mind living there if I lived in SoCal. These days I don't know how anyone could afford to. Every other car is a Porsche or Ferrari.
