Some dog portraits

    Nothing exotic, but I took some portraits of our dogs testing out a new 24" softbox and thought I'd share for my fellow m4/3 users.

    As a sort of side note, I used to be anti-flash and all about available light but I eventually realized it was because 1) I didn't know how to use light effectively and 2) I was equating "flash" with poorly used, harsh flash, especially from on-board flash units. I've taken 1-on-1 lessons with a local pro (Tatiana Rodriguez of Lifeshots Photography in NJ), and started learning on & off camera flash as well as assisting on shoots. In the process, I've learned a lot. While I still have lots to learn, it's definitely opened my eyes to the value of working with light, whether available or added.

    I see a lot of folks on the forum talking about how much they hate flash, and I thought I'd try to present a little of the other side. :smile: Note that these are all in a dark living room; without the flash I'd have been shooting at ISO 3200 or 6400 and/or very slow shutter speeds. There's no way I'd have been able to get that much detail and clarity with only ambient. Even with fast lenses, there's a tangible benefit to being able to work with added light. :thumbup:

    These are all with the GH3 and 35-100mm.

    I agree. Flash is not bad. Bad flash is bad. And many of us don't know how to properly use flash.
