Hi,

I'm curious to know which lens you have tried has the fasted autofocus?

Cheers

The PL 12-35mm f2.8, and the Oly 12-40 f2.8 are fast as lightning. I think they are faster than any other lens I've tried on the EM-1

+1 on Sigma 30mm, don't think I've used a lens as fast

The 12-40, 12 and 75 all focus very fast on my em5. Though the other lenses are not too shabby too.

The Panasonic 20/1.7 has to be the slowest m43 lens I've ever used. Out of the 9-18, 14/2.5, 14-42Z, 14-140, 45-175Z and 100-300, none of them stand out for speed, all are just ok. I would like a fast prime tho.

I usually find that it's the lens that I need on the camera.
So true, and often ignored, nothing focuses as fast as my hand using manual lens when shooting surfers at 1000 feet

But in the spirit of the thread I find the 60mm sigma to be super fast and I feel it edges out the O45

Reminds me....

Wouldn't it be nice if some of these modern cameras can set the lens at hyperfocal distance in a single push and display near focus distance on the screen?

I'm going to say the fastest is the Olympus Body Cap lens set in "snap" position for all subjects 1.5m and beyond. Nothing is faster than not focusing at all.

Amen, brother. Seriously, how hard can this be with native lenses? I'd assign a button to this function.

You said it! I was going to but thought why get ppl riled up? I bought the PL20mmf1.7 when I got my EM-5 because of all the hype about it. What a disappointment, it's not only slow focusing, but hunts and hunts and never focused when I needed it. Sold it as soon as I could.
The PL 25 f1.4 was brilliant and it's an excellent lens, but I could never fall in love with that focal length. I sold it (with some regret) because it did not stay on the camera too much.
Now that I have the OM-1, I find that many of my previously "slow focusing" lenses work very well indeed. I wonder if I should give the PL20f1.7 another chance......

If memory serves, the Sony A99 had the ability to preset certain distances.

Some Canon super-tele's also had a custom AF button that can be set to a certain distance also.

My 20/1.7 is probably still my most used m43 lens for its size and FOV in spite of the AF speed, but I'm considering one of the 25's or even the Sigma 19mm.

Out of my collection the Sigma 30mmF2.8, Olympus 45mm and the original Lumix 14-45 all focus very fast indeed, with the Sigma winning in low-light reliable speed.

I agree with the 45mm. Out of the lenses I own (see sig), it has never let me down even in low light. Also if the 12-40mm is at it's wide ranges specifically 12mm is also lightning quick. Photography lectures state that the wider the lenses, the quicker they are. With that said, the 45mm must be an enigma. The 75mm is plenty quick during daylight but hunts a bit if the subject doesn't have enough light.

Yes... I had a couple Canon telephotos that had that feature. It's a bit different than hyperfocal via a push of a button.

This is interesting. I had the Sigma 30mm until deciding to trade it off for the O25. I found that the Sigma was not as fast to AF.

I find the P14 quite faster than my O25.
