now that 12-40mm is released at$999, cool $300 below $1,298.

Will Monk3y be able to sell 12-40mm at $900?

Will Panasonic lower the price and match?

No doubt the marketshare will now shift towards Oly.

Interesting holiday season to be had...

Hahaha the answer is a maybe yes for $900, I don't accept pre-orders though!!
That depends a lot on the exchange rate. Or if you guys would accept kit lenses which means no box nor papers.

It will be available here come October, I am not sure when in other places.

As for Panasonic matching it, here in Japan it is almost the same price as the Panasonic 12-35mm

I expect the 12-35 will start to match the price it's being sold for in Asia, which has been $950 for ~5 months. Maybe a bit less, maybe they'll just match the $1,000 price of the 12-40.

I thought I read somewhere all the new 'PRO' lenses will include hoods.

Unfortunately, it comes with a filter size that prevents me from getting it. I settled on filters that fit my Panasonic and some Olympus lenses and it's not 62mm.

Wouldn't we expect the Panasonic to cost more since it has OIS?

Nope. See 100-300mm and 75-300mm (both versions).
