... but its not a joke.. this is what i did last night

My local bar holds regular blues nights.. I have shot them often... this time the difference was that my Leica owning girlfriend was out of town, and with her permission I took the M9 as well as the OMD

I shot some on the Leica....though I have to say the lighting was trouble some and my rangefinder skills are not fine tuned

the whole set of 48 pics is here...

Hotsy Totsy May - a set on Flickr

whittled down and processed from the 700 shots I did across both cameras in less than 3 hours using Aperture.

Not really sure my point in posting this comparison.. I am certainly not a pixel peeper.. and probably none of the photos posted are actually as sharp as the lenses would allow in perfect situations.

But maybe I have 2 take aways.

    1) At a wild party you just have to keep shooting... you will have lots of rejects... i threw away more than 200 of 600 at first pass... in the end I posted 48 images
    2) In the end...its not the camera that gets the shots

    cheers

Some really fine shots Kevin...the first and last in particular for me capture the kind of atmosphere I associate with a great night in a small bar...the sort of images that flicker through my less than sober head at the end of the night :)

    thanks Joe

I think sometimes, amongst all the discussions about what camera/lens to buy, that it is easy to forget that capturing atmosphere or an emotion is what photography is about for a lot of people... both photographers and their audience

On the night, the Leica was not the right tool for the job - all the goodness of the lenses kind of is lost in the noisy high ISO. The OMD continues to please me greatly - my set of primes really makes for a very versatile kit that fits in a very small bag

    cheers

I thought I recognized Roland! Mythical place, the Hotsy Totsy... But I have to admit I never went there
