Olympus E PL1 Sigma 600mm f8 MC Mirror-Telephoto I think many of the 5-600mm catadioptric lenses are better than a lot of folks think. A high shutter speed (even with IS) and extremely careful focusing are absolute musts. $/fun ratio is extremely high .

Thanks for these, nice color rendering and very sharp. I bought the same model lens a few months back and have been disappointed by lack of sharpness, but Ive also suspected it had more to do with lack of bracing/support and inaccurate focusing. I was about to sell, but I will try again.

Cool shots! I've thought about trying one of these. Did you use a tripod or are these handheld?

They are handheld. I frame, then set the magnify function - focus on the bouncing feathers and shoot when they are sharp. A tripod would probably make things much easier!! NB - this is the 600mm - the thread caption is misleading (my error)

Amazing that you could get such sharp photos handheld - well done.

Thanks! I am indeed in North America -San Fernando Valley- Calif. As to hand holding, there are lots of unusable shots before I get a few good ones.
