I don't have an account on Flickr, so FYI, yes we say "UN bateau" or "UN navire", so most of the time it's a he instead of a she, but a frigate is "UNE frégate", so you may have used a 'she'...

Thanks and thanks for the explanation. BTW we will be in France in July. Flying into Paris for a couple of days and then training down to Le Puy en Velay to walk the Robert Lois Stevenson Trail to Ales, before flying out of Nimes to London. Getting close and excited about our visit.

Thanks and thanks for the explanation. BTW we will be in France in July. Flying into Paris for a couple of days and then training down to Le Puy en Velay to walk the Robert Lois Stevenson Trail to Ales, before flying out of Nimes to London. Getting close and excited about our visit.

Wonderful program ! It might have been interesting to meet in person, but I will be on holidays with the family myself. Have a great journey, I'm sure you're going to love it.

If you're still interested, this is the standard of the Duke of Wellington.
Why it would fly over Buckingham that day is an interesting little mystery I'm not British enough to decipher.

Thank you. My searching was definitely heading in the wrong direction. Not helped by the photos being taken in 2016 and not geo-tagged. I also assumed it was flying at Buckingham Palace as the other photos at the time where from there. Maybe it was Hyde Park or nearby.

Anyway at least knowing it is the Duke of Wellington's standard is cool.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) flying over the Port Isaac RNLI lifeboat station.

Port Isaac is the location of the filming of the TV series, Doc Martin, hence the reason for our visit in July 2016.

For 20 years Carlsberg has been the official beer of the England football team and its flag was sighted flying proudly in Bodmin in July 2016. In February 2018 Carlsberg relinquished its role, being replaced by Budweiser.

Built in 1993, the United Kingdom flagged, 55,877gt 219.21m P&O passenger ship, the PACIFIC EDEN [IMO 8919245 ] departing F Passenger Terminal berth at Fremantle Port May 17, 2016.

At this time the PACIFIC EDEN was currently sailing regularly out of Fremantle during the southern winter sailing season according to reports in the West Australian newspaper. However since the mining boom came off the boil by 2017 I don't think she has visited Fremantle again.

Iolani Palace draped with the Hawaiian flag and a Kingdom flag. The palace was decorated for celebrating King Kalakaua's birthday last November. Note that the Hawaiian flag is the only one in the US that has the flag of a foreign country (Great Britain) in it. Homage to the close connection between Great Britain and the Kingdom.

Iolani Palace was built during King Kalakaua's reign, and it is the only royal palace in a US state.

A few of the thousands of flags at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu. Scouts placed flags and leis on all the graves of veterans and family members just before Memorial Day.
