Nice lens on that G1!!!

Can you describe the difference between the Pentax and the m43 camera?
- I don't mean the specifications, but your applications / feelings

Why? I am doubting between K-7 and GF1 (or the successor of one of them). I own LX3 and want to upgrade IQ and extent toward portraits (fast prime with effective length between 80 and 120 mm) and also a full range zoom.

Why? I am doubting between K-7 and GF1 (or the successor of one of them). I own LX3 and want to upgrade IQ and extent toward portraits (fast prime with effective length between 80 and 120 mm) and also a full range zoom.

As far as IQ between the 2, from ISO 100-400, not much of a difference really. The G1 noise is a tad more visible, but not bad at all. I have no problem using ISO 400 for any image. I'd say where the Pentax excels is at making larger photos (above 11x14) at lower ISOs, I don't make prints, so it is not an issue. IQ at ISO 400+.... With the G1, I'd use up to 800, but, understand that you should think about the low level of noise is not objectionable, it's like shooting a fast film. But, in really low light, the color noise may show up more..But easily taken out without any real degrading of edge sharpness.

Image Quality is really good with m/43 and really usable up to 800 ISO. I just find myself never needing that high ISO... If I shot at ISO 800+ mostly, I'd get a FF DSLR.

Most of my stuff is from ISO 100-400... Not a problem at all, even with the K20d, I only go up to ISO 640

If I a shooting something I know will be enlarged like to 16x20, and it will be in low light... I use the Leica M5 with a fast fine grain B&W film, or Color film. I don't own any glass faster than f/2.8 for my Pentax. But I do own fast glass for my Leica.

I think, for us who take photos in daylight and near dusk or dawn, an m/43 option is fine. A fast adapted lens will extend the versatility indoors without flash. but with 35mm and up with adapted lenses... But, rummer is that a fast native wide angle in about to be released...14mm I think.

I love the Zeiss 50mm f/1.5 on the G1, it is a great portrait lens. And very sharp, if needed. You will find an m/43 with a fast legacy 50mm will deliver exceptional results..

The only noticable difference you may find, is that K20d with a sharp portrait lens (I use the Sigma EX 105mm f/2.8 Macro), the finist details like the eyelashes, will have a little better edge sharpness.. But, really, it is not a huge difference, unless you make huge prints for display..even then, only a few on lookers may see a difference (like photography buffs who look at pixels more than overall image impact). Plus., Portraits don't need to be razor sharp, a little softness is good (the women love it).

Zeiss 50mm f/1.5 C-Sonnar @ f/1.5, no flash

E-P1 M.Zuiko 17mm

Another one of my OM1N. Since the start of the rainy days, I've only been doing camera porn photos... and it's not really a bummer:biggrin:

Still my favourite Micro 4/3 camera.
I have modified that grip and added some Sugru a while ago and somehow sits nicer in my hand than my E-M1
Just missing is the VF-4 (removed for this image) to showcase the most versatile go-to lens I have: the mighty refitted F.Zuiko 32mm f1.7 mounted on a short helicoid. It makes my M.Zuiko primes jealous ;)

My Jupiter-9 in Contax/Kiev mount was awkward to use: focus ring was too far away from the camera body and the aperture ring too difficult to operate.
I removed the optical block and refitted it with a M42 interface (short macro ring) to be able to fit it onto a M42 focusing helicoid.
Now I have a lens that has a focus ring that is easy to reach and the aperture ring a joy to operate.
The downside is that I have lost the bling look of the polished aluminium barrel of the original lens :(
