I don't know what it is but heights cause me to be somewhat afraid. I jumped with a parachute several times in the service and have had a solo sport parachute jump after the service. My first jump was traumatic but after that, even though I was higher than any bridge, it did not feel the same and I was okay. The sport jump was kind of scary since you crawled out of the small plane and stood on a small step outside until you jumped but I did okay. Put me on a bridge, like the old Royal Gorge Bridge or the one across the Rio Grande outside of Taos, NM and my legs turn to jelly.

I do recall the instructions as I left the plane on my first jump and it was to not look down. I remember thinking, where in the hell else will I look?
You look up, at the plane you should have never jumped out of!

I’ve bungee jumped before, repelled off towers (dozens and dozens of times both normal and Australian style), climbed mountains, and I’m pretty sure I’ve wasted money zip lining at least once...yet I have no idea what came over me on this bridge. The royal gorge bridge? Done it. No issues. But not this one.

I have bungee jumped once and would never do that again. Thought it would be a little fun but it was total terror. I have scuba dived along the Cayman wall, done night dives, and even that feeling of being at my maximum depth watching my computer as I floated out over----nothing could top that last bungee jump.

D62 over the La Mimente by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

La Gare (D62) crossing the La Mimente near Gare de Cassagnas, our destination for the day.

‘I was now drawing near to Cassagnas, a cluster of black roofs upon the hillside, in this wild valley, among chestnut gardens, and looked upon in the clear air by many rocky peaks. The road along the Mimente is yet new, nor have the mountaineers recovered their surprise when the first cart arrived at Cassagnas.’ – Robert Louis Stevenson

Chemin de Stevenson-2018-D10-30: Day 10 of 12 – Florac to Gare de Cassagnas: Walking the Chemin de Stevenson (#GR70 Robert Louis Stevenson Trail) in the south of France.

I like how we can just barely see the water below. It gives a good sensation of height.

The Tower Bridge in London. The other day it was stuck in the up position which allowed a unique opportunity.
