A bracing (-2°C) early morning walk at Fort Saskatchewan prairie. Little sign of new Spring growth except for beaked hazelnut (Corylus cornuta). The tiny female flowers have a spray of red styles, whereas the male flowers cluster as catkins.

We're in Autumn downunder, but it is still very dry. I was out looking for native orchids and although there were plenty of leaves, and a few buds, there were not many flowers.

Here are a few I did find

#1 Autumn Bird Orchid (Chiloglottis curviclavia)

Oaks are not flowers, but these buds fit better here than in the trees thread I think :) GX9 and an adapted Olympus OM 50mm 1.8 lens.

Spring is arriving after all, even though temperatures are still getting pretty cold at night, the days are starting to get warmer and sunny more often. I went for a walk yesterday and want to share some flowers I encountered along the way.

Muscari armeniacum is a bit rarer around the trails.

Laminum purpureum on the other hand is virtually everywhere and can be seen in larger clusters.

A lonely senecio leucanthemifolius, at least that's what I think it is, wasn't far from a nearby road.

Last but not least the all around taraxacum officinale, here with a friendly critter bee-ing hard at work and already covered in pollen.
