Something caused the ends of the stem to be replicated in the image. Since it's only in focus areas which are copied I would suspect some sort of dramatic focus stacking failure over camera motion, subject motion, curtain speed, or IBIS artifacts. While you've not indicated this was stacked I have seen similar, but much smaller, displacement artifacts in endocentric stacks. One conceivable explanation is accidentally zooming in during a focus bracket but presumably the 40mm focal length in the EXIF contraindicates that.

This was just a normal shot,no stacking. It is on both the jpeg and raw files. My lens did take a tumble a few weeks ago,so im wondering if it could be damaged in some way. Having said that,i have taken hundreds of photos since that look fine.

I have seen similar things when using the correction tool in DxO to take away something.

Thanks for the reply. I've just looked at the files on the Olympus viewer and it isn't there in those files. Damned Dxo had me worried there. It is in the unedited file on Dxo. Maybe something happened during the import process.

Thank you, I'm glad you like them.
The Olympus EM-1 with 60mm macro makes life easy, particularly for those orchids close to the ground.

Unfortunately, here in Vic, social media has created so many additional enthusiasts. Several of the popular reserves get trampled so bad there is only dust left on the ground.
I'll get to Tassie one of these days for the orchids and fungi.
