This was from last week. Hand held, too. This was with the 40-150mm Oly 4/3 lens on my E-P1. This lens is sharp if you can hit the focus. No PP, jpeg out of camera. I could have sharpened it and added contrast, but I think I'll leave it alone.

This doesn't rival the above but it's exciting to get my first shot of moon with detail. And not bad for a lens I got for £12 on Ebay (Adaptall 2 80-210, 03a):

Got my first big lens attention as well, someone asked me if I was from a newspaper.

Look at the difference in sharpness and detail ... I may have missed focus by a hair, but even so ... very impressive RB

Thankyou PDH.

Some of the differences may have been because I had:

A clear night
Tripod
IS turned off
Manual focus (tired of waiting for it to stop hunting)
EVF to help with focus
2 second shutter delay
base ISO
Manual exposures till I got one right
PP including levels and sharpening and colour balance (and crop)

hehehe ... thanks for the extra details ... I had some of those too! Tripod, EVF, 2sec + PP ... however I left it on AF + IS, and shot in aperture priority ... and only took 2 shots as it was too cold to stand around in the back yard with my fingers (and other bits) going numb ... I'll have a nother go next month if the sky's clear ...

G2 w/ 14-140mm (f/11, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, 140mm)

It was actually a lot harder than before to lock focus. I was unable to lock focus in the end, and when I put the 14-140 at infinity (via manual focus) it was clearly coming out blurred. I had to rack the focus one step at a time and take shots in between to get the right focus. Even then, its still slightly off. This was all off of a tripod with OIS on, maybe I should have turned off OIS or cranked up the shutter speed a bit?

I took this with the GF1 & 20mm lens hand held up to the eye piece of a 6" reflecting telescope. Was a pain to focus and once the telescope was sighted on the moon there is about a 20 second opportunity before it's moved out of frame!

There's lots of scope (pun unintentional) for this sort of stuff, whether with astro- or spotting 'scopes ... and as you've proved Rhys, can produce wonderful results ... the guys over here Andy Bright's Digiscoping Forum - BirdForum have got it down to a fine art, mostly for birding purposes ... though :43: cameras don't seem to feature much

Well, I got a new toy about 1 month ago. I purchased an 8" telescope reflector. I have a 4" and a 5" telescope and I decided to go bigger. This shot of the moon was taken at an EFL of 1500mm. I really wanted to shoot it at 1000m(f/5), but I had trouble getting the camera coming to focus. The focuser on the telescope has a limited amount of focus travel, typically designed for eyepieces. At any rate, I attached a 1.5x barlow lens to get it to focus. Shot at ISO 800 because the moon at that magnification moves quite quickly, and I needed a fast shutter speed. I also ran into vibrations of the shutter through the telescope causing some softness. This is the full image, no cropping.
