In the wrong place at the right time. This was this morning's sunrise when I finally got a clear view of it. The foreground was distracting off the highway I was on. Had I taken another route my timing would have put the sunrise over a lake a little earlier, which would have ben better all around.

However...

On close inspection I believe I see a couple of sunspots, so it wasn't a total loss!

I gave it the old reform school try. They said the sun would be spectacular due to the wildfires burning in Canada. The smoke from those fires would filter the sun and create a beautiful sunset they said.

Well...

The sun wasn't anywhere near the horizon by the time it disappeared into the smoke, but the smoke certainly did 'filter' it. The above image is a result of a Canadian Smoke Filter, and three small sunspots can clearly be seen near the right side of the equator. (I never know which direction east or west are on the sun)

So, this is my sunset image tonight. I'm betting sunrise is going to look quite similar so perhaps I'll hit the snooze button a couple of times.
