Inspired by Ron's really elegant photos of the curving staircase at the Dearborn City Hall, here are a few others on a somewhat similar theme. The first three, in B&W are of a much more garish staircase at the Bologna Airport Sheraton. I may have hijacked Ron's similar thread over at the "other" site, so I thought I'd put these in a separate thread here and invite others to add to it.

These stairs were the only even remotely interesting thing about the hotel we stayed at near the Bologna airport the night before catching an early flight back to the States. The last one is a set of stairs between decks on the cruise ship we were on for a couple of weeks.

It seems like I've seen a lot of photos on this theme (and a wide angle lens obviously helps a LOT) - anyone else have similar to add?

So that was you!

Those are excellent Ray. I can just see myself falling down those stairs.

Since you've started a new thematic thread, I will repost one from Dearborn ...

... and this one from the U. S. Supreme Court, which I visited last year. As a member of the bar of the Court, I was allowed to take my wife and son up to the law library on the fourth floor and was shown this "secret" staircase ...

Now I'll have to look through my files to see if I have any other stairs.

EDIT: I forgot about this one from the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Antonio and Deirdre - those are both great. Deirdre, I really love the feet and lower legs showing through the glass on yours - makes it much less of an abstraction and yet, because you can't see much more of the people than that, almost more of an abstraction at the same time. Great stuff.

Wow, somehow I missed so many new additions here!:redface:

Really great photographs here. I love seeing the different styles of architecture and each person's views of what many probably walk up and down everyday without even noticing.:bravo-009:

Not shot with micro four/thirds (Canon p&s), but I think this is the best photo my husband's ever taken. We used it for our New Year's cards this year.

Deirdre,

Was this, by chance, taken at the Apple Store in New York? I was there last weekend and took the photo below. Didn't even remotely occur to me at the time, but after I'd processed it and looked at it a few times over a few days, I remembered a very similar shot, tried to remember where, and then found this one of your husband's. To the extent I was subconsciously borrowing his idea, my apologies! If it was the same location, though, I guess its just the place is just begging for it...

EDIT - oh Jeez, I just clicked through to your Flickr page and, sure enough, Apple Store, Central Park. So I feel obligated to at the very least thank your husband for the inspiration for this shot, subconscious as it may have been!

One more, from my youth. Shot somewhere in Italy in 1981 - either Florence or Rome but I'm not sure which. With 22 year old eyes, an old Pentax K-1000 and ektachrome - recently had a bunch of old slides scanned.

Staircases are a lovely subject.
Here's one I shot over a year ago, for a friend of mine, who is lighting consultant.
This staircase is in Ostend, in the Royal Ostend Golf Club.
