In early spring, 1 plant blooms, which for me is the pronounced spring messenger. Namely the Common celandine - Ficaria verna. This flower of about 3 cm. by its bright yellow color indicates the message of the coming of better times.
The flowers that surround it are of the Ivy-leaved Speedwell - Veronica hederifolia.

Hi Henk, I'm happy for you to enjoy the Celandine blooming, but personally I find it a blooming nuisance.
I first noticed it around the county about 20 years ago and thought it was a lovely sight.
However, over the years it has taken over and now completely swamps my driveway and covers my front lawn.
This shot was taken today and that's after I'd mown most of the flower heads off a couple of days ago.
I garden organically, so no weedkillers in use and we've even tried teasing the plants out individually on the drive....and what a job that is!
There's only one thing around right now that seems able to spread more rapidly but at least Celandine doesn't have such deadly effects.
I know I shouldn't grumble.

Almost there. Perhaps one more day and this sering in my garden is at it most beautiful.
