This is Porth Oer beach on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales; commonly referred to as "Whistling Sands".
This is due to the sand making a squeaking noise as you walk across it.
My wife confirms that it actually happens, though being deaf I wouldn't have a clue.

A view from the sea of a part of Royan - a large town on the west coast of France, north of Bordeaux. The skyline is modern and quite stark after the almost complete destruction of the town by Allied bombing in 1945 in the attempt to force the surrender of the SS garrison, who continued to wage war well after the liberation of the rest of France. One report suggested at the time that only nine houses remained standing, and over 1700 civilians were killed on April 15th, when the US Airforce used napalm for the first time during an air-raid carried out by 1,161 aircraft. It is one of the saddest tales of the French front, worth reading about (plenty of information on the internet) if only to remind us all in these bizarre times of the frailty of human life and the horror of poor political decisions.

Today, Royan has a winter population of 27,000 people who live in quiet amongst deserted tower blocks and seaside apartments. In summer time, another 100,000 holiday residents turn it into a vibrant seaside resort, complete with some stunning Modernist architecture. If you are ever in the area it is a town well worth visiting, for it is a destination primarily favoured by French, and is thus a true reflection on French society.

The stark dark outline on the left of the image is the new Cathedral, well worth a visit and one I have yet to take a camera into.

No, but I can see your point.
It is the “Clansman Wharf” Whangaroa.
Named after the SS Clansman, a ship which used to service the area, before suitable road access was formed. Totara North in the background. Plenty of history here... At one time, it was said, you could walk across on the floating kauri logs...

So many pictures from Hawaii (of course!). I don't know that I did the island justice, but these images make me smile at the wonderful memories I made. This was the day I spent on the water, sailing and swimming with turtles. The views of Honolulu and Waikiki made me feel like I was in an old 60s Elvis film.
