With the Rugby League season underway and the first of the representative games tonight, thought maybe we could have a dedicated show thread for it.
I'll kick it off with a few from the Australia v New Zealand Anzac test match played a few hours ago.
    EM1mk2, 40-150Pro, F2.8, Shutter 1000 or 800 and ISO was living at 4000 or 5000.
    ProCapture Low, 18fps, CAF-TR.
I was back about 10 rows and about 15M-20M (45'-60') from the sidelines so nearly at 150mm all night :)

Are you allowed to take your gear into NRL games Phil?

Certainly Canberra Stadium had no restrictions on camera gear that I've found but as I don't generally go to the general season matches I've not tested it. The Mrs who is the Raiders tragic checked with the head of security for the NRL Anzac test games and was told the stadium imposes no restrictions including nothing restricting lenses :)
Maybe if I rolled up with a Canon 1dxmk2 and a 400f2.8 they might get more concerned :)
Your experience at other stadiums may be different

Cant speak for Rugby, but you'd get the 40-150 into AFL venues. 200mm maximum oirc.

It's not so much about the rugby Phil - it's the eternal Trans Tasman rivalry!
I'd expect the Ferns won , of course ...
    Nice photos too!

Thanks Wolfie, a few more to be added yet then the rest will end up in the Flickr album

    From Fox Sports.....
THE Australian Jillaroos have avenged last year’s Test loss to the New Zealand Kiwi Ferns with a gritty 16-4 win in Canberra.

Hmm - I'd be asking about any under-arm passing in that case ...

I don't know about NRL, but there is a 200 mm limit on lenses for the Super Rugby at my home stadium (AAMI Park). I think that is a stadium rule, so would also apply to NRL (Storm) and A-League (Victory or that other team) matches played there.

My seat for Rebels matches is three rows back, near the centre line, so the 40-150/2.8 (or 56-210/4) has enough reach to get a few shots. I just wish we'd play better rugby!

At least you'll get to see some true Class on Saturday night.
    Unless the Rebels win.

Crusaders? I think they're due for a loss. Too easy!

Got any gritty, late afternoon, unlit, pouring rain, second half, middle-league, grass roots examples? Rugby league at its... umm... finest. Or truest.

Bit of a camera test though.

Well Arg, the camera would be fine but winter time in Canberra means i'm prepared to enjoy the comfort of the lounge before suffering the cold of unlit pouring rain :) . Now if the Mrs's boys were still playing it may be different story. Now be careful maligning this great game otherwise i just may need to pick on that aerial pong pong game you play over there in SA :) though in reality I'm happy to watch either....
btw, i'm fairly certain we have a "show Grid Iron" thread not sure about others, it's nice to see a range of sports photo's on the site to offset the obligatory birds, dogs and cats :)

If you watch rugby, make sure you watch rugby, not that rugby league stuff.
