This is probably a typical side-road-off-the-side-road-off-the-main road here in Pembrokeshire, though this is particularly less-used than most, feeding a small farmstead that can be reached more easily from the opposite direction.

It's reached after climbing a long steep hill and in forty years this was only our second visit by bicycle.
That's probably why the sheep were a bit alarmed from seeing such unusual vehicles.

Waikanae River Walk. I think there is about 6km of nice track, dedicated to walkers and cyclist, both sides of the river. The bridge goes across the river to the other tracks ...

More from the Waikanae River walk. There's a big restoration project going on .... removing gorse, blackberry and pampas and replanting.

Rose this is quite heartening to see active gorse removal. It's a pest here in places.
I see pampas grass. That's declared weed here. How is it in NZ?

I think it is here too. Was a popular landscape plant some years ago .... it looks to me as though it may have been planted deliberately as there's so much, however the seeds are wind dispersed, and being coastal it is windy.

Quick Google tells me it is a weed, and very difficult to eradicate.

And did I include this info?

Thanks Rose
I've worked in riverine rehabilitation for more than 20 years and it's an every present awareness of the issues facing us with wayward weeds and the inroads they make in the environment, including valuable farming land

While I can understand why some of our ancestors brought plants and animals they were familiar with, when they came out, I so wish they hadn't brought some!

Totally agree, Rose.

About 5,000 years ago, our species brought the dingo to Australia. This caused the biggest mass extinctions of small mammals and birds ever. Then Europeans brought rabbits, starlings, etc, etc, etc.

Our species really is an environmental disaster!!!!

This is part of the lovely path for cyclists and pedestrians alongside the river at Hay-on-Wye.

As a reminder that this was the trackbed of the old Hereford, Hay & Brecon railway, this is located at the start.
