The creature setting up a wake on the right of the photo is a coypu, an invasive rodent from south America that were originally imported to provide fur. Although a major pest, they cause less damage than the regions other main problem, which is the population of North American red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarki, a species causing absolute havoc amongst French freshwater eco-systems.
