Show: Rainbows

Discussion in 'Scenic, Architecture, and Travel' started by noelh, Aug 9, 2011.

  1. Fast moving early evening front created a walls of rain over the Lake. Bit of thunder, lightening, heavy rain finished off with a colorful but short lived rainbow. Not the strongest rainbows I've seen over the big Lake, but still nice.

Resurrection. I had to search for this ancient thread. I can't believe we don't have a backlog of great rainbow images from the last 2 years just begging for a place to be shared.

The following image is from a trip last September. We were in Bruges' Markt square after a downpour. I reprocessed the photo today because I want to print it. I thought some of you might enjoy it.

I was going to post this in the "Clouds over your country" thread but I think there is just enough of a rainbow to belong here. In fact there was a double rainbow, the outer one is barely visible at the far left.

I find photographing rainbows very challenging as I am rarely able to capture the color that I see with my eyes
This one however worked: the background was really dark clouds and the sun was just shining on the subject
I happen to be on the beach trying to get some product shots of the sail on the kayak when there was a quick morning storm and the rainbow appeared

Not a sky rainbow, but I still think it qualifies. Banff, Canada. Athabasca Falls (I think). OMD-M1, 12-40

And another from Maui atop Haleakala. This is apparently one of the few places in the world you can stand and look down on a rainbow . . .
