I'm sure many of us in the U.S. took boat-loads of pictures during yesterday's 4th of July festivities. I know I did, and I hope to have them available to share this evening. But, to make this thread inclusive for everyone on the forum, I would love to see national celebrations from around the world. Show us some pictures, and tell us a bit about the festivities and the significance of them.

I'll get the ball rolling. Here in the U.S. on the 4th of July we celebrate Independence Day (which is almost never called Independence day, but instead, The Fourth of July.) It celebrates the day in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed, and we declared ourselves a separate nation. This didn't go over well with the British Empire, which led to the war that we call the American Revolution, and which the British apparently avoid discussing at all. :p

Today it is largely an excuse for barbeques, parades, and fireworks, all done, of course, in our typically "Go Big or Go Home" style. Where I live, the best fireworks, imo, can be found in Stillwater, MN. (That being said, I have never gone all the way into the Twin Cities to see the fireworks there.)

There was also a stage where local Rolling Stones cover band, Tumblin' Dice, kept the party atmosphere going. ('Cuz nothing says "American Independence" like The Rolling Stones. ;)

Here's a Flickr album with the pictures I've processed so far. I'll probably be adding more over the next few days.

P.S. Although I'm being somewhatly flippant, for many it is also a day to be genuinely grateful for the relative freedom and prosperity that we are lucky enough to have, compared to much of the world, and to honor those who have given their lives to protect that for us.

From Philadelphia, PA. Home of the singing in 1776....though surprisingly short 10 min fireworks (however one of many other shows too). Sponsored by Wawa in true American fashion.
