Delicate may well be the right word. The pier partially collapsed during stress testing in 1970, when they placed large plastic tanks on the deck and filled them with water. It was left derelict for years, then rebuilt and finally reopened almost 20 years later.

Breakwater is kinda like a pier, just not as wide, and not meant to moore a ship.

For next few days the sunset will be inline with the pier.
THe pier/lighthouse here is one of four in the state (of over a hundred pier/lighthouses) that stil has the catwalk.

Grand HAven pier into Lk Michigan. March 24th.
Nice spring Day, so went for morning ride. Still ice on pier on north side of the lighthouse.

Mo'cykl Parked there in the campground of the state park, that is chock full all season with big camp trailers and motorhomes.

And walk out onto the pier. It goes 1500ft out into the lake, view here is from a couple hundred feet out.

Lake a bit choppy that morning.

I dont mind some splashing. Did get a little wet. (required sitting in coffee shop to dry out before going for much of a ride.)
If was waves washing over the pier, of any depth, that would have me stopping and not going out.

Previous morning the pier was perfectly dry, and water quite calm on both lakeside and channel side.

Opps, need to make myself mind the level indicators more.

wasnt going to go onto this lower part.
I stayed up on the higher part, and even still, took home a couple quarts of lake water.
