@Mike Wingate will be able to give the definitive but I expect it’s simply a consequence of the wide aperture on a short telephoto lens, focusing at a middling distance and with ‘busy’ background.

Thanks for showing interest. That photo was the last one of the day. 16:30 facing the setting sun in a very dark wood. No tripod used, so maybe some motion blur. Lumix GX80. P42.5mm at f1.7. 1/100 sec. iso 400. Exp comp -2/3 stop.
