You need to have uploaded the photo somewhere where it can be seen on the web, then use the IMG tag to show the picture. For example, I'm going to pretend that the logo in the top left of this forum is my photograph. By right-clicking on it, I can find its URL. I click the Insert Image button on the toolbar in this forum's little editor, and paste (or type) that URL in. I end up seeing this in my post:

which looks like this:

That's not a thumbnail; it's just that the logo is only that big anyway. It works for any image on the internet that doesn't use cleverness to prevent hot-linking.
