Show "Creepy-Crawlies"

Discussion in 'Nature' started by Luckypenguin, Feb 27, 2011.

  1. Bugs, lizards, snakes, spiders, insects...some love them, some loathe them. Whatever the case, they do make great photographic subjects. This should hopefully be a good thread for the macro crowd in particular.

This shot below is a good example of what happens when you leave a door open on a hot night in Queensland. First come the insects who get into the light fittings, followed right after by the Geckoes...like shooting fish in a barrel.

I went to try out my new 45-200 yesterday, so not really a macro, but I had caught some creepy creatures anyway, so I would like to share them with you

    Mole Cricket.

Just rescued this little fellow from the tiled kitchen floor and returned him to a more suitable patch of soft ground outside.

Not cute by any means but beautifully adapted to his subterranean way of life.

First moth capture of the year

I ran my moth trap for the first time this year a few evenings ago on a mildish night, caught nothing. Now with colder nights I've had my first moth of the year outside the window. I eventually enticed it in and it then hid in my bathroom for 30 hours. Now having been photographed it's hiding in my kitchen

With one leg missing, I suspect that this little t. duellica has already had an encounter with the cat. We have an endless supply of these from a nest in our gas meter box. The ones clever enough to stay away from the cat can grow to quite enormous proportions.

Garden Orb Spider, I believe. Very common. This one is about 2 inches (5cm) in span.

    Olympus E-PL1 + Olympus 14-150mm + macro tube

Here's a few pictures I took on my vacation... These are the pictures that made me wanna buy some really sharp legacy lenses. I guess I had a "fear" for manual focus lenses before but while taking these shots I learned that macro shooting is soooo much more fun with manual focus.

All the pics are shot in RAW and then edited in Lightroom & Photoshop (unfortunately)...

    ISO200, 25mm, f/10, 1/320s

    ISO200, 150mm f/5.6, 1/200s

    ISO200, 150mm, f/5.6, 1/200s

    ISO200, 36mm, f/5.2, 1/50s

    ISO200, 58mm, f/5.6, 1/125s

EDIT: At least the first picture is shot handheld (maybe even the first three...) and rest is with a tripod.
