This is the beautiful and tiny Capel-y-ffin, located 1000 feet above sea-level in the Vale of Ewyas, in the Black Mountains of Wales.

It dates from 1762 and measures just 26 feet by 13 feet inside.

No services have been held during the Pandemic, but volunteers have been found to keep the pews warm.

Outside in the grounds, south of the building, are seven Yew trees in a semi-circle.
(This is the best panoramic shot I could get with my Olympus TG5 tough camera).

Next stop on our cycling route was this almost forgotten and very remote St.Mary's church, on the outskirts of the tiny settlement of Craswall, just over the English Border. It was sadly locked when we visited and had certainly deteriorated since our last visit over 14 years ago.
It stands in the middle of a field which is so rocky, making burials impossible.

The church is of Norman design, though the carved monument in the grounds is of Celtic design.

Like most of these ancient churches, they are constructed from oak timbers and even the porches reveal the workmanship that went into them.

This side door is beautifully made too, but I was on my hands and knees trying to capture the only splash of colour around, with this Rosebay Willowherb struggling to grow between the concrete path and the stone wall.

Acc. to the legend, this small chapel was founded nearly 300 years ago by the local landowner, in the place where a painting of St Isidore the Farmer was found during plowing.

Technically not a church; this is Llanthony Priory in the Vale of Ewyas on the edge of the Black Mountains in Wales.
It dates from 1100 and is rather unusual in having a Hotel within the structure.

This is St. Decumanus' Church in Rhoscrowther, South Pembrokeshire.
With no congregation, it was taken over by the "Friends of the Friendless Churches" an organisation set up to preserve old unused churches.

The small schoolroom in the grounds has fallen into disrepair and appears abandoned.

The village of Rhoscrowther was evacuated in 1994.
See the 'Abandoned' and 'WTF' threads for photos and details.
