Church of Saint Jean - Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille, France - Chemin de Stevenson-2018-D2-01 by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Whilst Robert Lois Stevenson "spent about a month of fine days" Le Monastier before setting on his travels we were not so excited by Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille. Partly I am sure because Anne was badly injured after the first day of walking and so we didn't have much enthusiasm for exploring the village. It was also not helped by arriving on a Sunday, which meant the village was pretty much closed.

All that said, the Church of Saint-Jean pretty much marks the start of the official start of the Chemin de Stevenson (GR 70 Robert Louis Stevenson Trail) (Stevenson actually started from the Place de la Poste across the road) but allow me a little poetic licence here.

The church sits high above the valley and provides an imposing view down the valley where we would be walking very soon after taking this photo.

Behind the church gardens and the trees lurks Holy Trinity Parish Church, Sutton Coldfield, UK.

About 1/2 a mile up the road, is Holy Trinity RC Church, also of Sutton Coldfield. I think someone decided to have a joke at the expense of local wedding photographers, florists and funeral directors.

Church of San Gian, Celerina, Switzerland. The tower was struck by lightning but the rest of the building is still in use.

This is St.Ishmael church, in the small parish of the same name in Carmarthenshire, named after a 6th-century Breton prince and Welsh saint.
The church sits in an elevated position overlooking the estuary and at high tide the water laps the shore less than 30 metres away.
There used to be a sandbank on the estuary which was dreaded by sailors and some of the graves are of those unfortunate to have drowned there.
In the last photo, you can just make out a chain and anchor wrapped around the headstone, signifying a grave of a sailor.

This one is way out in the sticks in Carmarthenshire.
It's at the top of a v_e _r _y steep hill which we struggled to cycle up.
On entering, there were bottles of water and energy bars for visiting walkers, cyclists and other pilgrims, which we thought was sweet.
However, having enough provisions of our own for the day, we declined the generous offer.
Nice thought though.

It's St.Michaels, in Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn.
Taken with my old Lumix TZ25 compact camera.
