Basilica of San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo (Carmel Mission), Carmel California.

The Carmel Mission was the second of the 21 California Missions and was founded by Fr. Junipero Serra in 1770. Its beginnings were in Monterey, California and soon after relocated to the head of Carmel Bay. Over the centuries it has flourished at times and then fallen into disrepair and mostly abandoned. There have been several renovations beginning in the mid 1800's through the 1900's and continuing to date. There is a very active Historical and Preservation Society that raises funding and supervision of the current renovations. Mass and services are held in the Basilica along with social events. There are three museums within the beautiful mission grounds. We spent a few enjoyable hours on a slow day last week visiting the Basilica and courtyard. These photos are from a stroll through the large Mission courtyard and its beautiful gardens.

This very handsome church was, despite a sign over the door with "Saint Cecilia", formerly St Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church at Cradock, northern South Australia.

This looked quite out of place, in conservative mid north South Australia!

St Oswald’s Anglican Church, Meekatharra, WA by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

St Oswald’s Anglican Church is today it seems the Meekatharra presbyterian church, the only church remaining on what was known as Church Hill.

The State Heritage Register describes St Oswald’s thus:

St Oswald's Anglican Church (fmr) was built to a design by architect Harry M. Marwood of Geraldton and dedicated on 24 August 1909 by Bishop Riley. Crooks and Brooker, who had a hardware store in Meekatharra, were the builders. The building was also used by the Freemasons until they acquired their own Lodge building in 1915. St Oswald’s Anglican Church became the centre of the Meekatharra Mission district covering Nannine, Peak Hill, Tuckanarra and Garden Gully. In the 1930s, services were being held on Thursday and Sunday in rotation with Wiluna, which had been added to the Rector's round. From 1936 to 1948, St Oswald’s was part of the Wiluna parish, reverting to Cue parish from 1948 to 1957…

In the 21st century, services are held each Saturday for an Anglican congregation that fluctuates between 12-13 and 6-7 people. Of the three churches established in Meekatharra, St Oswald's is the only one remaining. The Catholic and Methodist churches were on the same street and the area was known as Church Hill.

for some reason, I can not get the 4 images to show. Could somebody help me?
Might have something to do with that they are marked as private on Flickr. I can't see the first 2 pictures by clicking on the links, I only get a private picture message.
I almost never upload pictures from Flickr as that has caused other problems in the past, now I always upload from my computer.

Bo, IME almost everything to do with Flickr is a PITA.

These idiosyncrasies of commercial hosting sites is what convinced me to use my own site, and just put up with the cost and occasional inconvenience of same. Been doing that since 2007. I've never regretted it.

Thank you. I started to boost one image per reply in other threads. That eliminated the problem, although this is a bit awkward.

St Botolph, Hardham, West Sussex
The wall paintings are said to be some of the oldest in England. They are very faded but worth a visit if passing by.
