Crosspost from landscape thread. Edited in "fadervision" - each shot is an attempt to tone match a narrow color palette in the midtones, utilize wavelets to add structure and definition around medium sized details (generally applying a high pass sharpen on the #3 frame of a 6 frame decomposition, where #1 is finest detail), and to blend darks and highlights after b&w conversion. the final product is roughly 70% B&W.

I snapped these from the car while riding passenger, as I often do, full of contemplation on my way to a job interview in West Germany. It was raining pretty heavy that day so I slowed the shutter to reflect my mood. On a highway somewhere west of Caen, in Normandie.

Adapted 135mm (MF); missed focus, so I made lemonade.

I missed this thread somehow. But I'm really getting into this look, and I think it's helping me with composition since it downplays detail in favor of shapes and contrast. Moriyama and others of that school of thought have produced some images I just love.

Some street from the weekend. The Ricoh's hi-contrast B&W filter is definitely designed for this kind of photography, no doubt partly due to Moriyama's use of an older GR film camera and the philosophy of the point and shoot in Japanese tradition. I worked on the JPEG style a little, adding extra contrast, clarity and a strong red filter effect along with a slight blue filter effect. I think the red filter especially helps get the deep blacks and strong whites that goes with this style, at least in my mind. Most of the photos I took weren't really out of focus, as I've been wanting to determine how good the AF is for street (it's quite good!). I may experiment more with zone focusing using the built in snap focus, which (if I use larger apertures) will probably result in some slightly out of focus pictures. For now, this is very fun (and since I'm shooting raw, I can always develop a more natural image later if I want).
