Abandoned Structure, Orchard Road, Ashdown - JWR #007 by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

On my ride, I came across this abandoned structure. My initial thought was that it was a house but further exploring suggests possibly a commercial building of some sort. It is alongside a stream which is logical given the need for water, but otherwise no hint as to its purpose.

I haven’t so far found any historical information as to what it was or its purpose.

"KONSUM"
Konsum was cooperative retail chain which maintained bigger and smaller supermarkets in former east Germany DDR as well as an actually mobile supply of food and general goods. This Konsum sits abandoned in a small village. Doors and curtains most likely unchanged since it has been given up. I guess back in the day local residents could get basic stuff like bread, butter, milk and other daily goods right in their village, today they'll need to drive to the nearest town if they forgot buying their butter.
I like small details as the damaged rain pipe, which obviously never has been fixed, the plastering which is falling apart, the old remains of the doormat below the stairs or the mailbox - which actually still seems to be serviced. I have to shoot it again in the early morning hours, lighting was rather harsh when I was there.
