Alongside Hwy. 50, just west of Ely, Nevada, lies Lane City, an abandoned old silver mining ghost town.

Lane City, originally called Mineral City (1869-1876), was settled in 1869 and had a population of 600 people by 1872. It was the first mining camp in the Robinson District. The site boasted a ten-stamp mill, mercantile stores, post office, express office,six saloons, hotels, four boarding houses, restaurants, livery stables and, a blacksmith shop. The Ragsdale Stage Station were also located here. Later, the town was named for Charles D. Lane who bought the Chainman Mine and Mill in 1896.

Today little remains of Lane City except for a picturesque abandoned school house and crumbling shacks, mostly constructed around the early 1900's. You have to wade through chest high sagebrush to get photos of most of the structures. I was here years ago when there were more structures but, time and tide have taken their toll. We spent the night in Ely and I arrived at daylight to get these photos.

It is and you can still sneak in at your own risk of being arrested for trespassing. The first floor is only accessible to my knowledge. Ladders and stairs to upper floors have been cut away.

An old ranch complex since abandoned...quite a ways out in the country on a dirt road. I usually get by this way once or twice a year and photo this site as I'm passing through...may have posted similar photos in the past.
