These houses (and a few more out of sight) mostly made up the village of Rhoscrowther in South Pembrokeshire.

The oil refinery directly behind was owned by Texaco and in 1992 they offered to purchase the whole of the village.
Several families accepted the offer and moved out, but the refinery suffered a massive explosion in 1994, injuring 26 people and causing damage to properties up to 10 miles away. The rest of the villagers then took up the offer and the village was basically abandoned.
The nearby farm and cottage "Pleasant View" (see the WTF thread) appears to be still occupied, but St. Decumanus' church now has no congregation and is now under the care of the "Friends of the Friendless Churches" (see Churches thread).
As an indication of the village layout, here's a photo to show it.

Abandoned Structure, Orchard Road, Ashdown - JWR #005
by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

On my ride, I came across this abandoned structure. My initial thought was that it was a house but further exploring suggests possibly a commercial building of some sort. It is alongside a stream which is logical given the need for water, but otherwise no hint as to its purpose.

I haven’t so far found any historical information as to what it was or its purpose.
