Fortifications overlooking the Rhine and Koblenz:

I went up there, at night, to get a photo of the city. Turns out the good viewpoints are all inside the fort itself and it was locked up for the night. I could've broken in, if I'd had 30,000 troops and a lot of high explosives.

On the Rhine by Koblenz:

Same castle, in daylight:

On the Lahn as it joins the Rhine by Koblenz:

On the Mosel:

Further down the Mosel:

The castle wot they split in half on the Mosel:

..and from above:

I can't even remember this one. But it's on the Mosel:

Cochem, on the Mosel:

This one, on the Mosel, does not:

Coucy le Château, it had the biggest donjon (keep ?) of any castle in christendom and was during the 19th the most popular tourist attraction in France after the Mont Saint Michel... until the Germans dynamited it during the first world war.

Another more modest castle of the Soissonnais region. Those are scarecrows to keep the pigeons away. From the look of it, one would think that the current owners keep up the tradition, making good use of the eagle's nest latrines :

Bishop Castle in Rye Colorado (look it up; far too weird for me to explain in detail) -

Walking on this guys hand built cat walks lord knows how high in the air, where the railings come up to about your knees, was incredibly sketchy. But it gave a good view...
