Since it would seem my favorite subject is not really covered by either the landscape, or the architecture thread, hopefully you will allow me to open a new thread for it. Please share your old farmhouses, barns, town houses, storefronts, workshops, villagescapes etc here, abandoned or not.

I think the hard part of your theme is the difficulty of figuring out what is different from the architecture thread. I'm taking a stab that you intend a structure with some context around it?

Thank you for taking it up. Usually, when I see, or have in mind myself, photos labelled "Architecture", it is either cathedrals or modern architecture, office buildings and the like.
What I had/have in mind is in another league, less grandiose, less pretentious : your local farmhouses, barns, town houses, storefronts, workshops, villagescapes, portraits of houses in their surroundings. For me it is rural and historic France, for you it might be gas stations, town houses, restaurants...

Another civic/rural architecture image.
This image demanded quite extensive editing. I had to battle with an overexposed sky because of the dark yard, resulting in some problems.
Usually many cars are parked here. I got lucky having to put up with only the wheelie bin, which to me somehow adds to the picture.

Please share your images of modest civil and rural architecture here : old farmhouses, barns, town houses, storefronts, workshops, villagescapes etc, abandoned or not.

For those who expressed interest in my PP,
I am one of those persons who believes PP is an artistic process at least as much as framing-the-scene-and-pushing-the-button, and who spends hours on a pic and loves that. This is the way to get to know your capture in detail, to develop an idea of what you want and to get to know editing pitfalls and to learn how to avoid them. I am not sure if it is possible to give a comprehensive and useful idea of what I do. Will give it a try...

I import the RW2 files in Lightroom 6.4 where I find the images I feel I'd like to work with.
Then I import them to DxO Photolab Elite 2 in which I allow its standard basic editing, play with the Smart Lighting, Clear View settings and reduce the Vibrancy accordingly. Always use Prime noise reduction. I leave Lens Corrections but disable Unsharp Mask.

Then I export the result back into Lightroom, where I try out about each and every local adjustment tool. Hardly ever adjust WB. Usually lower highlights and up the shadows quite a bit. Strangely LR always unwantedly adds 25 Sharpening, which needs to be disabled each time. I generally use the auto transform tool. Most notably I paint the separate surfaces of most buildings with the adjustment brush, playing with shadows, exposure and contrast.
Often add some Radial Filters, upping or lowering exposure, Graduated Filters (exposure) top and bottom. Then I try out what upping and lowering the luminance (I hardly ever touch saturation) of each of the colors does for the composition, checking in the navigator thumbnail. I usually don't crop, avoiding to waste my scant 16 MPs.

Finally, I try and see if I feel I have overdone it, which is not easy after having been on that picture for hours, by the way I am red-green color blind so always remain unsure about how someone else will see my result... In case of prominent white fringing in power lines, or other silhouettes against the sky, I paint those over with an -100 clarity adjustment brush, adjusting contrast down, trying to eliminate any effect of the lowered clarity on the tones of the sky.

And there you go for a well spent evening away from the television ;)

PS : I always bracket three +/- 2/3 EV frames of which I choose one. I am under the impression that LR's HDR gives more noise. Ah yes, I heavily use Haida ND grad filters and sunshine WB while taking the photo, whatever the weather.
