Rose, it is very edifying to read (e.g.) the Wikipedia article on Active super volcanoes, of which, there are currently at least six! Yellowstone is one, lookie here:

Enough to cause some contemplation about our 'benign' planet!

Even the relatively benign ones can cause significant harm, as in White Island/Whakaari last year. And of course the Buried Village after Tarawera way back .... 1886 maybe? Googled, yes 1886. Although that volcano doesn't sound as though it could have been benign. I have a booklet about it somewhere, must dig it out and have a read.

Plate tectonics and vulcanism are fascinating and related subjects.

Look up 'Taupo' and what it did to NZ ...

NZ itself is a 'temporary' phenomenon ...

Of course, our insignificant species (that has achieved so much ... ) measures time in human lifespans, which are so very, very short.

All of human existence is as nothing on geologic time scales ...
