Went out for a hike on Christmas Eve. Hadn't been out with the camera for quite some time. We had some fresh snow the night before and the sun was out in the morning, although it was still quite chilly upon arrival but did eventually warm up. Found this guy on my way back to my car. I love this pic:

With temperatures in the single digits during the day, falling to below zero at night, the animals are really having a rough time. This weeks long cold spell is early this year. It feels more like late January or early February. Lately I've been augmenting the bird seed that these guys have been raiding with some peanut butter on bread just for them. Here, a cold little guy with ice balls on his legs takes a break from shivering to enjoy some Extra Crunchy Jiff Peanut Butter.

Just the opposite here. Very warm. We quit feeding the birds because there is almost no snow, even up in the mountains at 10,000' elevations.

I haven’t been out with the camera lately, winter, bah! Today however there was sunshine for a few hours so we did the reservoir walk. Bagged a red squirrel, roll on spring.
