I'm a big Orchid enthusiast, and am always looking for places to take pictures of them when I'm traveling around. I have a few different varieties at home too. I've seen a number of pics of beautiful orchids on the board, maybe we could compile some of them. I can help out a bit with IDing if people need that, especially if they are species or primary hybrids.

To start out, here is a Phragmipedium 'Eric Young', a South American lady slipper, just started opening it's first bloom of the year yesterday. Two other spikes, I'm hoping to get a nice bloom show going here soon. Taken with the EM-5/60mm.

I like trying to photograph orchids, but I'm rarely satisfied with the results.

First off my apologies as none of these were taken with m4/3.

Western Australia has a huge number of different native terrestrial orchids here are just a few that are found local to me.

    White spider orchid, caladenia longicauda

    dancing spider orchid (Caladenia discoidea)

    blue lady orchid (Thelymitra crinita)

    Bristly Donkey Orchid (Diuris setacea)

small mantis orchid (caladenia attingens subsp. gracillima)

This one looks to be a Phalenopsis Cornu-Cervi species, maybe crossed with one other species or a variation, but I love these. They flower like crazy when they are older, and are an easy species to grow. I have an Cornu-Cervi x Amboinesis "Corona". Phalaenopsis Corona

I've looked at these before Kristi, I really like them and am looking forward to seeing some of the same (hopefully) when I go to Hawaii!

Wonderful shots Paul, awesome to have native Orchids. I'm going to start hunting some of the native ones in the PNW this year, but they aren't easy to find.

I got into growing orchids so I'd have them to photograph ... that was 20 years ago and seven states across the US. And then they got me into website work ... A N G R E K.C O M

None of ours are in bloom, but given that some orchids have amazing foliage to match the blooms, I may have to get back to work.

And I LOVE seeing those Australian terrestrials! We actually grew a couple of them at one point (when I lived in Michigan).

Very nice photos. I took my wife to the Marie Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida last Mother's Day and took along the camera. I took tons of shots, but unfortunately many of them were very disappointing when I looked at them on the computer. It was before I had heard of shutter shock and it seems that many of the photos suffered from it. I did take several orchid photos that day. I'll have to see if any of them are decent enough to post. Fortunately, I have since learned how to avoid the shutter shock problem, so next time the results should be much better.

Definitely try to get to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden if you are on the Big Island, and the farmers market at the community college in Honolulu (near Diamond Head) had some amazing orchids.

I'm hoping to get to DC in early March and plan to visit the Botanical Garden there. I haven't been there in decades, but I think that they have an orchid section.
