The quality of the photos in this thread just amazes me. In the past I had not been much interested in shooting these critters; I was quite content admiring the work of others. This year it seems I have a little more time on my hands with little to shoot so I thought I'd take a closer look at my own surroundings. Nothing fancy here, no focus stacking, macro lenses, extension tubes, etc. Just shot with whatever camera was in hand when I noticed them.

The other day, we found one without its head (dead of course). We suspect he had his way with a female and then she had her way with him afterwards. It apparently doesn’t happen that often, so he must not have been very good.

Nicely done. It definitely pays to have a macro lens, but I just use longer lenses and try to nail the focus on the head.

Still trying to see how much magnification I can get from my Oly 60mm lens + 10mm extension tube + Raynox 250. Captured and froze a stinkbug to use under a controlled setting.
